HAVRE, Mont. (NMB) – At 6:30 tonight, Havre Public Schools will be hosting another Community Safety Forum in the Havre High School Auditorium. Superintendent of Schools Andy Carlson says they will have three main topics of discussion, including what and how they communicate with the community.
“We’re going to help parents talk to their children about school violence. That’s a pretty important topic and it’s one we probably haven’t done a great deal of time in. We work with our staff, but, you know, we’re missing that parent group and so we’re going to do that to start it off. We’re also going to talk about our threat assessment. We’ve had people trained in that and every time we have something, we use that.”
Carlson says that everyone in the Havre area is encouraged to come to the meeting.
“We, obviously, are targeting parents with some of the topics, but, you know what, if you’re a grandparent and you’ve had some tough questions from kids and you want to know how to respond or you want to know how to start that conversation. We really encourage anybody that’s interested to come. I think the last one was productive and I think it’s a very important topic and we’ve actually learned quite a bit by just having the first one.”
Carlson says they will also ask some questions to those who attend to get a better idea of how to move forward. The meeting will run one hour and he’ll stay after to answer any more questions people have.
