HELENA, Mont., (NMB) – The MSU Northern Basketball teams were on the road Thursday night, traveling to Helena to face Carroll College in Frontier Conference play.
The Skylights opened the night against the Lady Saints, who scored 7 unanswered points to lead 13-6 at the end quarter. Skylights cut the lead to three, then Carroll College jumped out to an eight points lead. Saint turnovers helped the Skylights cut the lead to 24-19 at the half.
Lady Saints led by 12 points at the end of the 3rd quarter. The Skylights went on a 7-0 run early in the final quarter to, but the Lady Saints used pressure and clutch shots to lead by as much as 14 points, and held on for a 58-45 win.
Peyton Kehr lead the Skylights with 11 points, with Tiara Gilham adding 9 more. Saints center Hannah Dean led all scorers with 21 points.
Next, the Lights faced the Fighting Saints. The Lights pounding the offensive boards early, but missed three-point attempts and nearly 7 scoreless minutes found the Lights down 16-7 midway through the 1st half. Carroll College stretched their to 16, leading 36-20 at halftime.
As the Lights struggled early in the second half, the Fighting Saints continued to extend their lead to 58-36 at the midway point. The Lights continued to rebound well, but couldn’t convert the second chances against a solid Saints defense. The Fighting Saints continued on to a 75-45 win.
MSU Northern was led by Cedric Crutchfield with 10 points, and Caulin Bakalarski adding 9 more. Carroll’s Match Burnham led all scorers with 31 points, while Havre’s Dane Warp added 15 for the Saints.
